When does the fighting start in the UK and US tonight?

Josh Taylor and Teofimo Lopez are set to make a statement at each other’s expense tonight, with each fighter heading into New York after a controversial win.

The undefeated Taylor, 32, last fought 15 months ago when he retained his undisputed lightweight title against Jack Catherall in Glasgow. Most fans and critics thought Taylor had been beaten, and the Scotsman subsequently vacated two of his belts and lost another while seeking a rematch with Catherall.

But that fight ended earlier this year, leading up to tonight’s main event, where Taylor will defend his remaining title – the WBO belt – against former lightweight champion Lopez.

Lopez, 25, captured the consolidated lightweight belts from Vasily Lomachenko in 2020, but the American lost them to George Camposos Jr. in 2021. Since then, he has responded to the pro-only loss with back-to-back victories in the ultra-lightweight division, however, stopping Pedro. Campa in August and controversially beat Sandor Martin in December.

Here’s everything you need to know.

when is it?
