Woman breaks world record for largest tongue Watch video

A woman from Texas, USA, has entered the Guinness Book of World Records as having the world's longest female tongue. Brittany Lacayo set the record with a tongue measuring 7.90 cm at its widest point, a measurement larger than the diameter of a hockey puck and roughly the size of a credit card.

According to the Guinness Book of World Records, the Brittany tongue is 2.5 cm wider than it is long, when measured from its tip to the middle of the closed upper lip. Interestingly, this 7.90 cm corresponds to the average total length of the female tongue, measured from the epiglottis (a cartilage located at the back of the tongue) to its tip.

The previous record, which had stood unchanged for 10 years, belonged to Emily Schlenker, also from the United States, who reached 7.33 cm as a teenager.

The woman, who works as a lawyer, always knew her tongue was pretty big, but the idea that it could be the widest in the world didn't occur to her until her best friend showed her a video of Emily.

Surprise and curiosity are the most common reactions Texans get when they first show their tongue. Until then, she claims she never revealed the trait to her coworkers, nor shared her story. However, with the official recognition, it will no longer be a secret. “It’s interesting, and a little funny,” Brittany admitted.
