Yes, as you can hear, backwards compatibility for Xbox 360 or even older hardware should soon be in the news again. However, it's not so crazy to think about when we know that the Call of Duty saga is coming to Xbox Game Pass very soon, something many of us hope will be a real boost for the service and for Microsoft. Diablo IV was the first title in Activision Blizzard's history to be included in Game Pass, but it certainly won't be the last.
Now, Xbox's Sarah Bond said the following to Windows Central:
“We have formed a new team dedicated to Keep the game. We are building Our strong history of backward compatibility We are committed to bringing the amazing library of Xbox games to future generations of gamers.
“It has been nearly six months since we came together as an organization [desde a compra da Activision Blizzard]. Our collective achievements during this period are enormous. Sarah said: “Everyone should feel very proud of what we have achieved and excited about the opportunities ahead of us. We are moving full steam ahead. Next generation devices“I focused on providing the biggest technological leap ever.”
“We are innovating in game AI, with a focus on delivering value to players and developers in terms of discovery, engagement, and creator speed.”
Note that game preservation is always a moot point, especially for titles that no longer contain physical media. As time goes by, and licenses expire, many games may be lost. Microsoft understands this situation and Sarah Bond has put together a team specifically for this purpose and for backward compatibility.
It looks like we'll have more news on this topic at the Xbox Games Show in June 2024, at least that's something some insiders claim is a possibility. We know that everyone Call of Duty games are backward compatible. Furthermore, it may also be the case that the team has already started working on a new generation console and may again need support from the team to provide backwards compatibility. We will watch.
