YouTube, which already bans content promoting eating disorders, will restrict videos that indirectly promote practices common to eating disorders.
According to the company, videos about recovery from an eating disorder, for example, can make users in similar situations less lonely. However, this type of content can also cause triggers and indirectly encourage imitation of the behaviors described.

For example, YouTube says it will restrict the following:
- Disordered eating behaviors such as vomiting after eating or severely restricting calories.
- Weight-based bullying in the context of eating disorders.
In addition to the restriction, YouTube has worked with experts from the National Eating Disorder Association (NEDA) and the Asociación de Lucha contre la Bulimia y la Anorexia (ALUBA) to update community guidelines.
The platform has also launched Crisis Resource Boards, which will direct users to trusted content about eating disorders. It will be possible to quickly seek help from global mental health support organisations.
YouTube currently features artboards in countries including the United States, United Kingdom, India, Canada, Japan, Korea, Mexico, France, and Germany. The platform intends to roll out this feature elsewhere.
YouTube is launching improved video quality for Premium subscribers
YouTube has launched a new “Enhanced” 1080p HD video quality option for Premium subscribers. According to Google’s video platform, the new Premium 1080p option is an “enhanced bitrate version at 1080p” that should make things look sharper, especially on videos with a lot of detail and motion.
For now, the option is only available on iOS, and soon on the web. Although the novelty is exclusive to Premium subscribers, YouTube ensures the default 1080p option won’t go away, even for non-subscribers.
